Advocacy in agriculture has evolved over the years to include not only domestic and global policy, but food security and the social license to farm. Despite the expansion of advocacy, those getting started in farming, or trying to get ahead in farming, have found themselves with less and less time to devote to it. Effective methods to empower young people to advocate for improved outcomes for themselves are yet to fully emerge. To ensure agricultural advocacy in Australia is future-fit, youth voices must be given a pathway to be heard loud and clear. Industry should develop new networks and opportunities for young people to be the leaders of now, not tomorrow.
